Purple House
A choose-your-own-adventure story game about growing fantasmic plants based on the player's choices.
Purple House is a choose-your-own-adventure style game where the player goes through a series of choices that determine what kind of plant they grow. Such choices include things like what kind of light and nutrients you give the plant, and the plants you are able to grow are all fantasy-styled, each with their own names and histories. The art style is handwritten-watercolor and it is done in the sense that the player is writing everything down in a journal, giving everything a very rustic charm.
For this project I was the technical specialist, which included taking all the input and assets from my development team and making it a reality through the use of HTML and CSS (written in Atom). The mechanics behind everything are mostly simple button links that take the player to a new page and formatting all the assets according to the layout desired by the team. Each page includes a new question or piece of the story and a choice for the player to make, that leads to the next page and new choices. Included on the menu page is also a collection link where players can view a catalog of all the possible plant outcomes and information on them. Additionally, there is a link to the game’s website that houses other information on the game and a store for merchandise. The current build is located on itch.io.
